Lil’ Ed boasts a direct bloodline to blues history—his uncle and musical mentor was the great Chicago slide guitarist, songwriter and recording artist J.B. Hutto. According to The Chicago Tribune, “Williams represents one of the few remaining authentic links to the raucous, pure Chicago blues.” The Associated Press agrees, stating, “Williams fills Chicago’s biggest shoes with more life and heat than anyone on stage today.”

Michael Burks will singe the whiskers right off your face, kicking every tune in the butt with the chunkiest sustaining siren-wail of a tone this side of Albert King, by mixing back-snapping funk and traditional postwar blues grooves. He's a big, bad blues guitar slinger with a brawny tone. Fans of rompin', stompin' blues power are the beneficiaries of Burks' trials and tribulations, as his deeply emotional playing and singing derives from his personal experiences.

The story-telling griots in Africa dispensed the tribal wisdom and blues artists in America have been doing the same for well over 100 years. Like Percy Mayfield, who was also called the "poet of the blues," Tas Cru tells life lessons with a rare verbal flair. It is not for nothing he has been called "the master of the triple entendre." His songs are eccentric, quirky, and sometimes boldly irreverent with a repertoire that is equal parts power, passion, and pure fun. This combined with his soulful voice and skillful guitarwork has earned him his reputation as a bonafide "triple threat."

Maybe that's a good thing. Had David not taken the long route, he'd have missed performing with Big Joe Turner and with Bill Black's Combo in the early 1960s, touring with blues legends Jimmy T99 Nelson and Lavelle White, and receiving the direct "laying on of hands" from Texas piano titans like Floyd Dixon and Big Walter the Thunderbirds.

In some ways Roots R&B/Americana singer/songwriter/piano player/guitarist KELLEY HUNT is a rarity and a challenge to the music industry's penchant for easy artist definitions -- a woman who has muscled her way onto the scene on her own terms with an identity steeped in blues/roots/gospel traditions and a refreshing originality. She makes music with it's righteous roots intact that also crosses boundaries, has an open-minded, exploratory attitude and takes on social and political issues.

The Texas guitar tradition runs deep. It's a gutsy school of blues playing, marked by thick tones, aggressive attack and tons of technique, all delivered in a flamboyant, swaggering style that is endemic to the Lone Star State. From T-Bone Walker and Clarence Gatemouth Brown on through Albert Collins and Freddie King, Billy Gibbons and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, the tradition of the Texas guitar slinger has lived on. One name that ranks atop that exclusive list is Johnny Winter, the international ambassador for rocking Texas blues for the last thirty years.

Born on the south side of Chicago and raised by his Grandmother where he was given his childhood nickname, Biscuit; after always being in the kitchen and underfoot while she was trying to cook. Growing up at Grandma’s house also gave Biscuit his love and appreciation for music, as gospel and soul were played in the home on a regular basis.
While visiting his friend Datrick’s house one afternoon, Biscuit spotted a four string electric bass sitting in a corner collecting dust and decided to check it out. The bass belonged to Datrick’s older brother, Darnell, who taught him a couple of songs and Biscuit took to it like a fish in water. “It was easy to play and I fell in love with it immediately”.

| Johnny Otis - December 28, 1921 to January 17, 2012. Ioannis Alexandres Veliotes, who is best known as Johnny Otis, was one of the true bedrock figures of blues, rhythm & blues & early rock & roll. He died at age 90 at his home in the Los Angeles suburb of Altadena after years of decreasing health. Johnny Otis did it all: singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, bandleader, talent scout, radio show host, television show host, label owner, nightclub owner, sculptor and painter, author, and he even had his own brand of apple juice! He had a vibrant personality, a sharp look, and the ability to get things done. He was an essential part of many of the greatest moments in rhythm & blues! As as white man of Greek decent, Otis truly embraced black culture, and very decidedly and successfully led his own black music movement. |

| You might think it strange that the Blues Foundation’s 2012 Literature award went to rocker, Keith Richards, for his new bio, Life. But the choice is not as odd as you might think, because the common interest and bond that first brought Keith and Mick Jagger together was a love for the blues. |
